I didn't get the Skoda today. After confirming collection for 4pm, I received a call this morning to say that the valet team at Mini had shut the rear right passenger door for it never to open again . Of course it's getting fixed, a new lock something something, but after the two bank holidays last weekend, BMW being backed up for the bodywork touch-ups, and the door lock shenanigans I'm looking at Tuesday for collection. That'll be three weeks since I bought it. I WANTED IT FOR THE WEEKEND GODDAMNIT.

You bought a Skoda? Awesome. What model?

2008 Octavia VRS diesel estate. I'm desperate for it!

When you first said that the rear right door was never opening again, I thought the Mini Countryman in the last photo had gotten its revenge and driven into it. Still, major bummer.

Bloody awesome car mate, that's all I can say :)

3 weeks for delivery, what were you expecting? 3 weeks would be pretty unacceptable to most folks who only have 1 car, well more likely zero cars while they await delivery

Just as long as more parts of the car don't Balkanize, and pickup actually *is* Tuesday...

I was told before the Easter break. Which turned into after the Easter break. Which became today, and is now Monday or Tuesday at the latest.

Thanks, I took a while choosing something. It's got all the right figures and a huge boot.

Skoda have made a lot of rather great cars the last 10-15 years. I REALLY REALLY want a Superb Estate of some sort.

Waiting is the worst. Mine is going back into the dealer because my impatience meant that more stuff needs to be done to it.

When I saw you in my notifications, I was expecting Lewis Hamilton's forehead. I have no idea why.

They may as well put the wing mirror on while it's there :) how long will they have it?

Was expecting to find out that the shop cleanup tech took it home one night and did this to it. A diesel skoda flipped into a ditch

I'd have to use more capital letters for a post like that. The fury would need to be evident!

Hopefully only a few hours, needs to be MOT'd and I paid for them to fill it with fuel (they forgot), then the mirror too. Once all that's done the car should be trouble free for a good while, just been serviced and everything is in good condition.

There you go, I might be back in time for your first-drive then.
Also, it appears its already starting to show its VW-ness.

Guess you'll just have to drive the Landie... what a shame.

I need your advice! Having never waxed/polished/buffed/detailed any of my cars, I want to start. What would you recommend as for a basic car detailing kit? I'm tarting up Rosso Red and Electric Blue.

Basic kit. Wash mitt, two buckets, shampoo and drying towel are the basics. From there an exterior dressing for tyres and trim, sealant or wax, degreaser for stubborn areas, glass cleaner, loads of microfibres, wheel cleaner and an interior dressing are the next on the list.
If I can get your e-mail address or home or work address I can make up a small sample kit of Gtechniq Gwash ( great shampoo), Gtechniq UV wash (great summer shampoo with UV protection and anti static properties to repel dust), Gtechniq C2v3 (a great sealant to add protection and when diluted down 3:1 with water makes a great drying aid and/or quick detailer), Gtechniq G6 (glass cleaner with no colours to make it look nice or fragrance to make it smell pretty just a good honest non smearing glass cleaner) and some Gtechniq C6 (interior dressing). I can also let you have some Gyeon Bathe+ which is a car shampoo and sealant in one.

Whoa, thank you. I'm happy to pay! alex@grr.la
I've never used wax before (unless it's a wash/wax), I've only ever washed and dried my cars then put the dressing on the tyres. What about buffers etc?

I wouldn't dream of asking for money fella.
I'll e-mail you for an address either home, work or somewhere your happy for them to be sent.
If you want to edit out your e-mail address in your post, I've noted it down.
I've never been a waxer. Have been a sealer for years. So much easier to use and better durability.
'Buffers' I presume your referring to DAs (dual action orbital polishers) and rotary polishers.
I prefer to polish by hand as I can get a good feel for the paint and what I'm working with. It takes a lot longer but a good polish makes all the difference. I use Gtechniq P1 which is a water based pad dependent non diminishing polish and can be used for anything for cutting/compounding to refining.

It's disposable. Email me on it and I'll email back my proper one.
I'll have to come over to Carlisle and landscape your garden to say thank you.

No worries, e-mail sent.
I don't have a garden I'm afraid but thank you. I live in a terrace house with a yard at the rear.

Ah the possibilities of a yard!

The yard is, well, in short, chaos. Step-father and his plants and stuff that keep him entertained.

Good man, I like him already if he loves his plants.

Next w/e? Is the Lincoln all set or will you bring the Bimmer?

It loses its charm after about an hour of driving on the highway... I wanted to go across west to the lake district with the dogs. If I could shoehorn them and the girlfriend into the Alfa I'd be fine!

BMW, seems like the Lincoln won't be back before August lol. And yes, next weekend should be perfect.
